Business 1, Lesson 60 – 3 Time-Allocation Changes to Increase my Productivity

Write 250 words. Topic: “Which three time-allocation changes could increase my productivity the most. Why?”

As I have mentioned in my previous Business essay, I spend a lot of my time doing things that could be much better spent doing schoolwork and learning other skills. Things such as texting, checking my WordPress, and leaving my desk for unnecessarily extended periods of time. These distractions to more harm than good, no surprise there, so today I am going to be talking about the three time-allocation changes that could most increase my productivity.

First off, the biggest distraction I battle every day is texting. Despite talking about cutting down on texting often, I do not actually do it, and sometimes even spend more time than usual talking to my online friends. But nevertheless, I can lessen the amount of time spent texting by only texting at certain intervals during the day (or night). Such as after dinner or after 6-7pm. That way I only have a few hours before I have to go to sleep.

Then of course there is the matter of WordPress and other distracting sites. As with texting, I could limit the time I allow myself to visit those sites to sometime after dinner or after I finish my work. Or perhaps even only visit them—or at least some of them—only on the weekends.

The last but definitely not least distraction of these three is leaving my desk. Nine times out of ten, I leave my desk just to stretch my legs, clear my head, or give my eyes a break from looking at a screen. While these are valid reasons to leave one’s desk, I often spend over an hour away from my computer, give or take. I definitely do not need so much time to walk around and stretch, so if I can manage to keep my breaks at 15-20 minutes max, my day will be much more productive.

In conclusion, the three main distractions I can shorten the amount of time I spend on are breaktimes, texting, and browsing websites that are not associated with my work. As I have said above, I say that I will try to lessen the things that distract me, but then do not do just that. This time I will make more of an effort to actually decrease these issues, and hopefully be able to overcome them and increase my productivity.

(Love this opening – If you organize it a bit stronger, you immediately get the reader involved in your piece and clearly state the direction you will be going. This will also continue to allow the natural organization of your paragraph. Example – “So much of my day is spent busy with assignments and learning other skills. However, I find that there are distractions that cause more harm than good to my academic success. Three time-allocation changes could increase my productivity dramatically. Decreasing texting time, checking WordPress less, and remaining at my workspace for a longer time will positively affect my academic success.”)

First off, the biggest distraction I battle (with)every day is texting. Despite talking about cutting down on texting often, I do not actually do it(.) Some times I even spend more time than (necessary) talking to my online friends. Nevertheless, I can lessen the amount of time spent texting by only texting at certain intervals during the day (or night). After dinner or after 6-7pm, (when my assignments are complete, may be an effective plan).

Then(,) of course there is the matter of WordPress and other distracting sites. As with texting, I could limit the time (of day that) I allow myself to visit those sites(.) (Visiting the sites) after dinner or after I finish my work, (would be a better idea). (Taking it a step further and only visiting them) on the weekends, (may work, as well).

The last(,) but definitely not least distraction of these three(,) is leaving my desk. Nine times out of ten, I leave my desk just to stretch my legs, clear my head, or give my eyes a break from looking at a screen. While these are valid reasons to leave one’s desk, I often (end up actually) spend(ing) over an hour away from my computer. I definitely do not need (this) much time to walk around and stretch. (If instead) I can manage to keep my breaks (to) 15-20 minutes maximum, my day will (most definitely be) much more productive.

In conclusion, the three main distractions (that will create the most impact on my productivity are shortening the time spent on ) breaks, texting, and browsing websites that are not associated with my work. As I have said above, I will try to (decrease) the (activities) that distract me (and) make more of an effort to (correct) these issues). (As I make these three time-allocating changes) , I will see an increase in my productivity.
